It's wonderful and a great escape from the crazy daily grind.

83 days to go – Getting ready for venue training!

Thanks to Andrea Kay for doign some awesome digging for the 2010vanfan blog. You should link to her site at www.2010vanfan.com

It’s gotten late again somehow… I’m not quite sure how it happens some days though I suspect that not finishing work until 9:30pm this evening may have had something to do with it.  And while it was a very lovely day in the Olympic Superstore it was an item in my email inbox that really got my attention.  Today I received my Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Village Venue training booklet.  It talks about what most of the roles are within the village, including my role in “Plaza & Events”!  Sounds like there will be some welcoming ceremonies, maybe some concerts and fun, the gym and funnily enough, the retail shop (something tells me I’m likely to get shifts in the shop as I am already so familiar with the Vancouver 2010 retail merchandise!!).

A photo of the Athlete's Village taken during the summer.

I go for my Venue training on Thursday night this next week and I really can’t wait!  It’s going to be fantastic!

*     *     *     *     *

Too many things to mention tonight so I’ll keep them all brief!!

Pin contest – Comment on this post (or one from the last few days) and answer the following question before the evening of Sunday, November 22nd (my brother’s birthday!) and you could win an oversize Torch pin from me!!  They’re very cool!!  Curious?  Find more info here (there’s also a hint!).  And of course, the questions:

Where was the first Winter Olympics Torch lit, by whom, and in what year?

Drawing of the oversized Torch pin - it's nearly 10cm long!

*     *     *     *     *

Some bits and pieces:

I love Pique Newsmagazine from Whistler!!  They always have great, up-to-date information on Vancouver 2010 and what it means to the communities that are hosting!!  Please check them out!  (I think I’m too late for #followfriday but I don’t have a Twitter link for them anyway… Is there one??).  My most recent example of why I love them is that they covered some of the discussions of putting a zip-line across Robson Square (still nothing confirmed but it’s still in the works!  Wicked!).

*     *     *     *     *

Whistler has broken snowfall records for November!!  I’ve heard the ‘pow’ is fabulous (nearly 5m of cumulative snowfall this month!).  Me?  Well, I wouldn’t know… a slight skiff of snow and I get nervous.  Ok… well yes… I get nervous anytime I strap boards to my feet and head downhill, but there are a lot of excited people and it’s nice to have an early start to the season!

*     *     *     *     *

We’re going to have new neighbours!!  Seems like a floating fishing lodge is going to be moored under the north side of the Granville Street Bridge for the Olympics providing an additional 12 rooms for accommodation in town.  I think that means I’ll see it anytime I look out the windows!  Should be neat.  I’d like to say “Welcome to the neighbourhood!”.

Soon to be my neighbour!

*     *     *     *     *

Hmm… what else??  (There’s a lot so I’m trying to find the stuff I’m most excited about…).

Oh yeah!! Mitts for Kids!  There is a fundraising project going on right now to get the Red Mittens to every elementary school child in Vancouver!!  It’s a big job!  Sounds like so far they have the kindergarteners covered but they want to get all of the kids up to grade 7!!  If you’d like to help out with a donation click here!

*     *     *     *     *

Mascot’s Birthday!!!  I think I’ll finish off with this as some of it isn’t set in stone yet but I have some more specific ideas about what’s up so I wanted to pass them on!  The Mascot’s birthday is on Friday, November 27th, but we’ll be celebrating in the Olympic Superstore on Saturday, November 28th!  The Mascot’s will of course be there (they couldn’t resist the cake!) and will be appearing at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm for a half hour each time.  There will likely be balloons, goody-bags for kids, and face-painting, and of course birthday cake at 2pm!  The Mascot’s will probably also be set up for a photo shoot where you can buy your photo with the Mascot’s for a $2 donation to Canadian athletes.  Also at 2pm??  Kurt Browning will be signing autographs I think (hope!!) as well as a speed skater (sorry speed skater, I don’t have your name yet… I’m working on it!).  So really it’s going to be a fantastic and wonderful day!  I hope you’ll come down to check it out!

84 days to go – Robson Square Ice Rink opens Monday!!

This Blog is courtesy of Andrea Kay - You should sheck out her site at www.2010vanfan.com

by 2010vanfan

I had a lovely day today… first in the Olympic Superstore and then volunteering in the evening at the BC Showcase.  The best part about volunteering this evening??  The ice is being made for the GE Ice Plaza at Robson Square right now!!  With the opening planned for Monday!!  Woohoo!!  I will certainly be there to catch the festivities!  Here’s what it looks like now!

This is a beautiful outdoor rink!! The ice is just being built now for the opening on Monday, November 23rd!! On the ice (heck! making the ice) are Ron and Aaron Fell from Smart Ice.

I even got to talk to the guys making the ice for a while tonight.  Ron and Aaron Fell are father and son and work for Smart Ice Consulting.  They are layering the ice up, one flood at a time (usually about 4 per day).  And yes, apparently there is a lucky loonie in the ice!!  Actually, it sounds like a ‘lucky frozen water fountain’!  I guess when they first started building the ice up lots of people were keen for there to be lucky loonies so there may be quite a few coins frozen into the ice now!  I of course also had to ask if there is going to be a Zamboni for this little ice rink (it isn’t quite as big as a regulation hockey rink) and apparently there is!!  A 3/4 size Zamboni to clean the ice (I’m counting on you Ron and Aaron to comment and correct any mistakes I make here! :) ).

There is going to be a little café at the rink, and of course a place to rent skates!  Skating is free if you bring your own skates!!  That’s just way too cool!!  (I gotta go get my skates from storage!).  If you need to rent skates they’re only $3!!  And if you’re smart you’ll also rent a helmet for an additional $3.  But… children 12 and under get free rentals as far as I can tell (don’t hold me to that, but I’ll confirm soon!).  Skating will be open to the public on Tuesday, November 24th.  It sounds like there are festivities planned for Monday but I haven’t managed to get a schedule for it yet (email me at 2010vanfan@gmail.com if you know what it is please!  I don’t want to miss anything!).  Here are a few more pictures!

The Skate Rental shop... still in progress.

The Café, also in progress.

The "boards". And Ron and Aaron making the ice.

I may be a little excited to go skating soon! Thanks Erina for taking the photo!

I’m sure I’ll have a whole lot more to report in the next few days so stay tuned to 2010vanfan for all your GE Ice Plaza needs!!

*     *     *     *     *

Just a reminder… only a few days left to enter to win an oversize Torch pin from me!  All you have to do is comment with the answer to the following questions before Sunday evening when I post!  The questions?

Where was the first Winter Olympics Torch lit, by whom, and in what year?

See this previous post if you would like a hint!

*     *     *     *     *

One last thing before I’m done for tonight… Welcome to readers from pincollectorssite.com!  And thanks to pincollectorssite.com for the link!  Wow, just looked at his New Additions and I am boggled!  There are way, way too many fantastic pins out there!!  This, dear readers, is why it’s best to have a preferred type of pin (for example ‘must have Mascots’ or ‘only media pins’ as there is a dizzying array of pins out there!  And I’m only going to make it worse with mine!  Sigh.  Ah well, it is too fun to stop now!

85 days until the Opening Ceremonies – A new HBC pin!!

THis Blog is courtesy of Andrea Kay, who is the brains and muscle behind 2010vanfan. Go check it out and bookmark her www.2010vanfan.com

by 2010vanfan

Oh la la!!  I’m so excited that I got to see a new HBC (Hudson’s Bay Company) pin today!!  It has all three Mascots plus Mukmuk!!  Wow!  It’s quite a neat pin and it does draw attention.  I was given one to photograph and post about tonight but I had to hide it ’cause everyone wanted to trade!  However, never fear… I’ve heard that I may be able to get a few to give away here at 2010vanfan!!  It sounds like it won’t be until January but keep your eyes open!  I will do my best to have a few to give away as soon as possible!  Here’s about what it will look like!

The new, soon to be released, HBC Vancouver 2010 pin!

*     *     *     *     *

Tickets – Sounds like there are still a lot of tickets around if you’re interested, more than 40,000 of them!!  Including 12,000 for hockey preliminary games and 10,000 for curling preliminaries!!  Also, the website where you will be able to resell your unwanted tickets is supposed to be available soon.  I will of course post up information on that as it becomes available.

*     *     *     *     *

Torch Relay – The highlight for many today was when Sidney Crosby, the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins and hometown boy of Coal Harbour, Nova Scotia, carried the Olympic Torch in Halifax.  I didn’t get to watch it but it sounds like there were a few “Torch Parties” where people gathered together around a computer or television to watch the few minutes live as an athlete we are all so proud of did something that made him very proud to be a part of.  Please find more on this story here, it’s pretty darned nice.

Sidney Crosby with his Olympic Torch ! (Photo by Kevin Van Paassen/The Globe and Mail).

*     *     *     *     *

OK – I worked late at the Olympic Superstore tonight, and am back in there early tomorrow morning so it’s a short one tonight!!  Hope you all had a good day and aren’t being blown away by the storm battering Vancouver tonight!  Goodnight, bonsoir!

OOPS – nearly forgot!!  Don’t forget to enter my latest pin contest!  I’ll be drawing a winner on Sunday so click here for info and to enter now!!

86 days to go – Red Mittens Update…

this blog is courtesy of www.2010vanfan.com

A thousand pardons to Andrea Kay who is the person behind the 2010vanfan blog. Actually, Andrea is 2010vanfan. I would suggest that you link to her site.

by 2010vanfan

I have come to the conclusion that Canadians love, love, LOVE our Red Mittens!!  Is it ’cause they’re warm and fuzzy, or ’cause they’re red with a white maple leaf, or ’cause buying them helps to support athletes?  I think it is definitely some combination of all of them, and a powerful combination at that!  Every Torchbearer wears these Mittens and I’m starting to see just everyday folks on the street wearing them too!  We have a hard time keeping them in stock in the Olympic Superstore!  We got a shipment in tonight and had people arrive at opening today to fill up basketfuls!  So… the point of my story?  Buy your Mittens as soon as you can!  It won’t be long until there are no more available!  I’m pretty sure that they’re still planning on sticking to the one million pairs produced and, at a guess, I’d say that half of that number is sold already!!

Morning walk with Mittens, our dog and the Inukshuk at English Bay!

*     *     *     *     *

Now, some number of months ago I had a woman from the States send me a message about trying to find somewhere to park their RV/van thing so they could come up for the Games.  I had assumed that the RV parks around town were full, and had sort of enquired a bit of the few people who I know that actually own homes (and yards) to see if they would be willing to share some space, but a story in the Vancouver Sun today makes it look to me like there is still definitely some places to camper-van in Vancouver!  (Sorry to the woman in the States, I looked for your message to tell you directly but I’ve not had luck finding it so far!).  Anyhow, I had no idea that the Vancouver Parks Board had offered up the parking lots at Spanish Banks and Jericho Beach for RV sites!  There are no hook-ups (such as electricity) but it is a great view and I bet there will be a lot of Olympic Spirit around!!  The sites are $95 + GST per night (minimum four nights) and you can find more information here if you’re interested!!  Bonus -  if you’re a Vancouver 2010 volunteer or stay the entire 21 nights there are discounts!!

View from the beach at your potential camp site!! Wow!

*     *     *     *     *

Hey!  Do you read this blog on pincollectorssite?  If you do why not check it out on its original site at http://2010vanfan.ca!  I’d love to have you stop by and enter my contests or leave me a note!  Thanks!

*     *     *     *     *

Speaking of contests… don’t forget to enter my latest contest!  You could win an oversize Torch pin!!  It’s very special and pretty.  I like it and plan on wearing mine a lot for the next few months!  Anyhow… :) to enter just comment on this post and answer the following questions:

Where was the first Winter Olympics Torch lit, by whom, and in what year?

I will draw a name at random Sunday evening (November 22nd) from all of those that answer correctly!  Find a clue here, as well as a bit more info!

*     *     *     *     *

Today’s Olympic experience – Sandy, a previous pin contest winner, came into the Olympic Superstore today to pick up her prize.  It was very nice to meet her!  She is also volunteering for Vancouver 2010 and is also assigned to the Vancouver Athlete’s Village!  I love getting to meet new people and it’s really very neat to have people come and say hi and have a chat about anything Vancouver 2010!  If you do find yourself in the neighbourhood, please stop by and say hi!  While I’m not always at the Olympic Superstore, I am there quite a bit, and do feel free to email me in advance at 2010vanfan@gmail.com to see if I’ll be around.

Actually, I’d like to add a few names to my visitors list today, besides Sandy (pin winner) there was also Rosemary (Vancouver 2010 enthusiast), Jim (enthusiast and pin fan), Fran & Jim (some of my family), and Radar (Ok, he was there for pins but said hi to me too, that counts doesn’t it :) ).  A lot of the fun that I get out of the Olympics and Paralympics coming to Vancouver is getting to meet new people and to share stories!  And I would love to hear yours!

*     *     *     *     *

Right then, well, it’s gone and gotten late again, darn it all.  So that’s it for this evening, other than to say… “I’m going to Montreal for the Torch Relay and I’m really, really excited!!”  I can’t believe I’m doing it and I find every now and then I have to say it to remind myself how close that is!  I leave Vancouver on December 8th!  That’s only 20 days away!  Gosh!  And with direct Air Canada flights the trip will be a breeze!  (I’m still wondering if Air Canada is doing anything “Vancouver 2010″ on their flights… does anyone know?).  OK, sleep time!  Thank you merci for reading and sharing!

87 days to go - More than 12,000 views of 2010vanfan!!

November 17

Wow!!  I can’t quite believe that the numbers have added up so quickly!  Thanks to everyone reading and commenting and participating with the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games and with 2010vanfan!!  It’s really great to be involved with so many people excited, happy and participatory in the Games!!  I really do believe this is a once in a lifetime experience and am so glad that you’re all along for the ride with me!!

Now, speaking of the ride… I know I talk about pins a lot, but somehow they’ve become an integral part of my Vancouver 2010 experience.  I did get a few pins today (ok, a ‘few’ may be a mis-representation, maybe closer to ’scads’).  And my pin purchases today of course included the new oversized Torch pin!!

Me with my new Oversized Torch pin!

The pin is really huge!  I’ve heard 9.5cm!  (I have not measured it to confirm this myself, but that seems about right!).  So this is the pin that you can win in my latest contest (check it out and enter here!) but I also got some of the other new pins out like this year’s Mascot Christmas pin… and maybe a few others :o ).  I’ll take some photos and put them up soon, but you can bet on the Mascot Christmas pin being in a contest sometime soon!  So keep checking in to enter for that!

(Oh, and in case you’re wondering, no, at this point we do not have the Oversized Torch Pin in at the Olympic Superstore, but I’m hoping soon.  I got mine from Hudson House Trading in Gastown ’cause I’m impatient and needed at least one for my contest and they always get new pins first!!).

*     *     *     *     *

Next up… Coins!!  The second “Olympic Moments” coin will be released today, Tuesday, November 17th through your local Royal Bank Branch!  It’s the ‘Women’s Hockey Gold 2010′ coin! I plan on stopping by and getting some for myself.  I’ve written about them a few weeks ago so you can check out that post here, but do also try to get yourself a few of the coloured coins, they’re pretty darned neat!

The Maple Leaf is coloured red on some of these circulation coins!

*     *     *     *     *

I’m afraid I’ve run up against sleepiness again.  But I will endeavour to get out and do something Vancouver 2010 related that has nothing to do with pins tomorrow to tell you all about!  Any thoughts or suggestions?  I will have a tiny bit of time outside the Olympic Superstore (I work through the day) but maybe something nearby, or maybe you could stop by and say hi and share your Olympic story!!  Thank you merci, goodnight, bonsoir!

88 days to go – Oh no!! I’m in trouble!!

by 2010vanfan

I’m going to start first with the winners of my latest pin contest tonight, followed by a new contest, followed by my unfortunate realization that I am truly into pins and that there is a large number of new pins that I seriously dig coming out between now and the end of the Games.  Sigh.

OK!!  First, the happy news!  As some of you already know, I’m not very good about giving out only one pin in my pin contests, so tonight, besides the Coca-Cola 90 days to go pin, I’m also going to give away some extra pins!!  So, here are tonight’s winners!

First place – Coca-Cola 90 days to go pin – Eric V!!

2nd place – Petro-Canada Olympic pin – Joyce P!!

3rd place – RBC Olympic pin – Philip Lau

Consolation prize – (for those that entered themselves :) ) – Air Canada pin – Que Banh

Plus, I have a Coca-Cola 90 days to go pin for Hardeep G from COLDFX2010 ’cause you so very kindly directed so many people to enter and had your name entered so many times that likely you would have won anyways!!  So this way there are more prizes for everyone!!

Thanks again to everyone that entered…  Check out below for your next chance to win!!

*      *      *      *      *

OK – Next Contest!!  Gosh I like giving away pins!!  It’s so much fun!  Once again, I haven’t actually got the pin in my hand quite yet, but should have by tomorrow night, but this one is pretty darned special!

088 - Oversized torch pin

New "Oversized" Torch Pin

You could win yourself an “oversized Torch pin” just by answering the following…

Where was the first Winter Olympics Torch lit, by whom, and in what year?  OK – not a small question, but this is no small pin either!  And somehow it seems fitting to me that a special Olympic Torch pin is won by answering an Olympic Torch question.  To enter, comment on this or any post before the evening of Sunday, November 22nd and include your answer to the question.  I look forward to hearing from you!!  And here is a hint!

088 - Bjaaland

*     *     *     *     *

So, while trying to decide what pin to put up for a contest today, I went to Artiss Aminco’s website (the pin company that make most of the Vancouver 2010 pins)… BIG MISTAKE!!  Oh my gosh!!  There are so many wonderful and interesting pins coming out in the next few weeks (just over 12 of them!!).  Here are the drawings of a few of the ones I won’t be able to resist!!

Pin - mascot snowboards

Mascots on snowboard shaped pins!

Pin - Hockey Jersey

Canada, USA and Russia Hockey Pins

Pin - Goalie Mask series

Hockey goalie helmet pins!

Pin - upcoming holidays

Super-sweet upcoming holiday pins! I hear that on the Christmas one the star that Miga is placing is actually a pretty crystal!

OK – that’s probably plenty of pins for tonight.  And don’t worry, I’ll do my best to let you know when we’re getting new pins in, both of these retail pins as well as corporate pins!

89 days to go – People like pins!

by 2010vanfan

Wow!!  I am so excited by the interest that I’ve received about my latest pin contest!  It’s pretty wonderful! Thanks to everyone that has entered a friend so far!  I will be drawing on the evening of Sunday, November 15th so keep your fingers crossed that you will win this pin!

089 - 90 days to go pin

Coca-Cola's 90 days to go pin! Just released today! (Not bad for a photo taken on my mobile phone!).

If you’d like a chance to win this pin, just get someone you know (or don’t know if you’re particularly cunning and devious) to post a comment answering this question: What sort of creature is Quatchi? And get them to include your name! (First name  and last initial will be sufficient!).  The names posted in the comments with the answer will be entered to win!  Good luck to everyone!!

*     *     *     *     *

Thanks to Kate, Rosemary, Patti, Carol and Henry for stopping in to the Olympic Superstore today, it was nice to see those of you I already knew and very nice to meet some new people who are also a bit Olympic Mad!  It was a pretty darned busy day in the store, which was nice, but it was also interesting to hear how people made out with ticketing.  Since I had to work I had no luck getting through the waiting room but it sounds like many people did.  Did you?

*     *     *     *     *

It’s gonna be short tonight.  It’s late and I am sleepy!!  But I wanted to post up a link that I found on Kate’s website to get a Molson pin (actually two! one for you and one to trade) just by donating $20.10 to the Canadian Olympic Foundation!  I have just ordered my pins (thanks Kate!… I think… :) ).  And I would also like to congratulate all of our athletes that have been competing this weekend!!  Sounds like an even busier weekend of sport and medals!  So congrats to Shawn Sawyer (Figure Skating), Lyndon Rush and his teammates (4-man Bobsleigh), Francois-Louis Tremblay, Charles Hamelin, Kalyna Roberge and Marianne St.-Gelais (short track speed skating), and Christine Nesbitt and Kristina Groves (long track speed skating) for all winning medals so far this weekend!  Woohoo!!  Go Canada!!

90 days to go – Another countdown milestone!

y 2010vanfan

090 - Mascots

90 days to go until the Opening Ceremonies!!  It’s hard to believe that it’s so close now.  To celebrate Coca-Cola has a ‘90 days to go’ pin that will be available for purchase in the Olympic Superstore on the morning of Saturday, November 14th, when we open at 9:30am.  And yes, we do have them in store already!  I saw them this evening!  They are limited so it will be a maximum of 4 pins per person to make sure that as many people as are interested get a chance to have some.  So come on down if you’re interested!  I’ll be around from 9:30 to 5:00pm and it would be great to see you!

(No, no picture of the new pin tonight… you have to wait to see it tomorrow!  After it’s actually been released! :) ).

*     *     *     *     *

The other big news today, the BC Court of Appeal decided to dismiss the appeal of the women ski jumpers to be included in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.  Ski jumping is the only Winter Olympic Sport that is only competed by men.  This has to do with IOC rules and various arguements that I won’t get into here.  However, I feel that while the women’s ski jumpers are very disappointed with this result, their fight has not been unnoticed and I expect that we’ll likely see them compete in Sochi 2014!  Good luck to them all!

*     *     *     *     *

Hmm… I think there are only two final quick topics for tonight… First up – The final phase of ticket sales happens at 10am on Saturday, November 14th (today!!).  So if you’d like to try your luck at adding some tickets to your event calendar be sure to try in the morning on the Vancouver2010.com website!  Good luck on your ticket adventures!

Tickets mascots qmAnd lastly, just a reminder about my latest contest!!  It’s a chance to win one of the new Coca-Cola ‘90 days to go’ pins!!  This is a very quick contest… I will draw the winner’s name on Sunday evening (November 15th)… but to enter, you need to get someone you know (or don’t know if you’re particularly cunning and devious) to post a comment answering this question: What sort of creature is Quatchi? And get them to include your name! (First name  and last intial will be sufficient!).  The names posted in the comments with the answer will be entered to win this pin!  Good luck to everyone!!

*     *     *     *     *

Wow, I was wishing a lot of good luck to everyone tonight, but that’s okay, who couldn’t do with some good luck!  Happy 90 days to go!!  Have a great day!

91 days to go – Mascots’ birthday and a new contest winner!!

by 2010vanfan

Not to delay… but just scroll down a bit if you’re impatient to find out my latest pin contest winner!  However… I found out some exciting and wonderful news today that I cannot wait to share!!  It is about the Mascot’s birthday!!  Now… their birthday is officially on November 27th, however we’ll be having their party on Saturday, November 28th in the Olympic Superstore!!  I have an unofficial list of events, so you shouldn’t hold me to any of it… but… it’s really great so far and I’m beside myself (and probably even beside other people!) with excitement!!

091 - Mascot birthday

Yes, Miga, Quatchi and Sumi will be celebrating their 2nd birthday in store!!

So what’s happening??  Well, of course the Mascots will be in store (when I know their appearance times I’ll let you know… and I seriously need a picture taken of me with them this time around!!!), there will also be face painting (am I allowed to do this at work?),  a dj, CAKE (I like cake!!), and, wait for it… athletes… including… oh my gosh… I’ll need a box of kleenex ’cause I’m so excited that I’ll cry like mad!… Kurt Browning!!!!  Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!!!  I jumped and jumped and made crazy noises when I found out!  (Yes, I do that.)  And oh my gosh!!  It’s Kurt Browning!!  And the Mascots!!  And cake!!  I don’t really think it gets better than that!  Ok, maybe just a little bit… I have heard that there will be give-aways that day, but I’m not sure what they will be yet, nor when… so I will be sure to let you all know this information as soon as I get it!!  But seriously!!  Kurt Browning!!  I used to hate skating (stupid toe picks!) but  I have always loved Kurt Browning!

OK, I’m calming myself, but time for you to get even more excited!!  Now my Mascot Birthday Pin winner!!!  (Drum roll please!!!)  And the winner is Sandy(wps1015)!!  Thanks so much for entering Sandy!  Email me at 2010vanfan@gmail.com with your address so that I may send you your prize, or if you’re in the Vancouver area, let me know if you’d like to stop by the Olympic Superstore to pick up your exceptionally cute pin!!  You’re not Sandy?  Don’t fret!  I seem to be unable to give only one pin away lately!  I added Kate T’s name to the draw, since she so kindly helped me get my map online and available to everyone and she is the second name I drew!!  So Kate T, I have a Petro-Canada Olympic Pin for you (just got them the other night from  John, a lovely Petro-Canada employee!).  And another!  Just for fun!  Henry!  For his entry that included the sports equipment in Mukmuk’s burrow (you’re all more clever than I, I saw the hockey stick and snowboard, but there was also the jersey and the curling rock!!)!  A Royal Bank Olympic pin for you Henry!  Yay!!  Thanks to everyone that entered!!  You all curling rock!  (Yes, lame puns… it’s getting late at night ;) ).  Same deal for Kate T and Henry as for Sandy, stop by and see me in the Olympic Superstore to get your pin (just let me know first so I bring it with me) or email me your address at 2010vanfan@gmail.com to get your pin mailed to you!  Congrats and thanks-merci for reading and sharing!!

And of course… winners also mean that I am contest-free, and I can’t have that!  So, while I don’t have one in hand quite yet… I am assuming I’ll be able to get at least one Coca-Cola 90-days-to-go pins on  Saturday, November 14th, and that is what you could win!  This is a very quick contest… I will draw the winner’s name on Sunday evening (November 15th)… but to enter, you need to get someone you know (or don’t know if you’re particularly cunning and devious) to post a comment answering this question: What sort of creature is Quatchi? And get them to include your name! The names posted in the comments with the answer will be entered to win this pin!  I’ve heard that this pin is very limited, and I’m banking on my being there early in the morning to work as my odds of getting one to give away!  And I did manage to get one of the Coca-Cola Torch pins so I’m very hopeful about this new one!

091 - Quatchi Coke Torch pin

Very cool Coca-Cola Torch Relay Pin with Quatchi!! I've not been particularly convinced of the Coca-Cola pins before I saw this one!

And… on a Coca-Cola note… I had better link to the Open Happiness song, or Herb, my co-worker, and self-proclaimed “Herb of the Happiness Cafe” fanatic (aka ‘Herbalicious’ or ‘24 Herbs and spices’), will likely beat me with a Coke bottle (ok, that’s an exaggeration, he’d never use a ‘happy’ Coke bottle ;) ).  So here it is!  It is very happy and I like that in a song.

And speaking of happy!!!  Wow, did our athletes ever do well in Skeleton today!  Especially the women!  Amy Gough got the silver medal in the first World Cup Skeleton race of the season in Park City, Utah!!  Followed closely (only one one-hundreth of a second back) by Mellisa Hollingsworth for the bronze!!  And then by Michelle Kelly in fifth!!  The men did very well also, coming: Jeff Pain 6th, Jon Montgomery 9th and Mike Douglas 15th!  Wow!!  Go Skeleton Team!!  Oh, and if you’re interested in Skeleton, read this article from CTV about how hockey and Canadians changed Skeleton!  I really loved this article!  I had no idea that Canadians revolutionized Skeleton, let alone were devious and sneaky about when to expose their new technique!  Eh! O! Canada Go!
